What Is Postmodernism And Where Is It Around Us?

Postmodernism is a very hard thing to define. The term has not firm definition because it varies depending on what you're categorizing. Postmodern artifacts can range from well known works or art, architecture, street art, literature, music, and so much more. However, postmodernism surrounds us so much and it can become hard to distinguish the difference between what is and what isn't. While searching for my artifact for show and tell and seeing other classmates' artifacts my perspective on postmodernism grew. From postmodern identities such as instagram and other social media, to headphones that make us question what "real sounds" are - the examples are endless. The problem however is that some do not know what postmodernism is exactly so they don't know what to look for. In my mind, postmodernism is somewhat of a false sense of reality, it makes us think of what reality is. Postmodern media such as television, movies, social media, etc. plants false realities and expectations in our minds so when a scenario does not play out like we've seen we believe that it is not real. But the truth is, the way life is IS real. The things we see on television for the most part do not exist. There are not always happy endings or justice brought upon criminals. We need to spot the postmodernism around us and step away from it so we can see our true reality.

  1. Very interesting take on postmodernism. Postmodernism can take on the shape of several things that surround us and create false identities.
