Today's Postmodernism

We live in a post modern society. We have surpassed the modern age and moved up to the pedestal that we call postmodernism. I believe Postmodernism is a skeptic means of thought. In the past things were what they seemed to be for the most part and the means of them were easily extracted. Postmodernism is a more advanced way of looking at things, where any object or idea can be looked at in a way that gives it meaning. Modern art is one of the big players in the game of postmodernism, along with the mindset of postmodernism.
Art was originally a contest of who can depict an object or scene in the most realistic way, slowly art advanced through various stages such as abstract art and naturalism, and now we are at the point of postmodern art. This type of art is centered more around human thought rather than the ability to paint or draw. The art is supposed to give meaning and make you think hard into the subject. For example, there is a painting of a pipe, it is captioned “This is not a pipe.” This makes you think into the fact that it is not a pipe, but just a painting of one. I believe postmodern art was created because people were tired of the typical art that you view and think about history or the somewhat more shallow meaning behind it, unlike postmodern art where the message can be taken in multiple ways and it is somewhat unknown what the true meaning to the pieces are.
Postmodernism also transfers into our society. I would personally say that most of the world has evolved to the point of postmodernism. Postmodernism reflects well into the “hipster” community. “Hipsters” who say they are nothing but, live off the idea of being different and not following the norm of society and doing whatever makes them comfortable. Postmodernism is exactly that, not conforming to the norm, being different. Humans are constantly changing, making new ideas and leaving behind the old out of style ones. Quotes said such as “War may not be the answer, but what is the question?” reflect well on postmodernism through paradox; for example:

“What is not the answer?”
“War."

This proves the original phrase “war is never the answer” wrong, posing a different question, flipping the views, making this statement postmodern.
