Goon Squad Music Video Reflection

For my groups  music video we were assigned chapter five and chose the song "Chances" by five for fighting. I played the character Lou, who the reader was able to see through many different lenses throughout the book. At first he is shown through a negative perspective. We learn that he would prowl on high school girls and was not at all a descent human being. But in chapter five Lou is dying and we get to see him interact with the some of the people he had taken advantage of. He is shown as more regretful as he reflects on his past sins. He has more of a conscience, that becomes more developed when he is remorseful on his deathbed. If I had to grade myself I would say a 75% on my performance. I did a good job of looking creepy, but I am no actor and my embarrassment effected my "performance"(if you could even call it that). But it was an interesting experience that allowed me and my group members to work more closely with the book and better analyze it.

  1. I think that you did a great job in your performance, Ryan! I enjoyed planning it out, because I think that we had just the right amount of flashbacks and present moments in our video. I thought that putting yourself out there in that music video must have been very scary, and was not something I was able to do so well.

  2. I think this assignment was a really fun and educational. It was very nerve wrecking performing even though it was not live. I think recreating the chapter and putting our own words into the song really helped people understand the chapter. Planning for the video was very interesting because we used a catchy song and had to change the lyrics to go along with the chapter. I think it was really hard for you and Eva to play such important roles in the chapter Playing Lou required a creepy and sad side. I think using the flashbacks was a good idea so people could see the creepy side of Lou not just him dying. In the chapter, Egan doesn't necessarily bring up the flashbacks but we used other chapters to help create Lou. I think we did a good job incorporating the death of his son Rolph because it adds to the regret that Lou felt from his past. I think the project was interesting because we got to add our own twist on the chapter to help other students understand it.

  3. I remember Ms. Young talking about taking academic risks at the beginning of the year and I think you took one and it paid off. Very good job.

  4. As I'm sure many people know, I was utterly terrified of having two English classes full of people I know hearing me sing on tape (though, strangely enough, I'd have no problem singing in person--don't ask why), but I did it, and I think my group did well. I actually enjoyed making this project, despite the anxiety attack that followed (hence the meditating), and I really felt like I got a better understanding of that chapter, even of Lou in general. Everyone in our group did a really great job (special thanks to Ryan L for editing the video!), and no one slacked.

  5. I fully agree with my groups ideas here. Perhaps with more time we could of done even more with the chaper but since we only had one day to shoot iti think we did a great job. We got the key points down and showed the highlights of the chapter. I agree with Ryan B. in that I feel likeI understand the chapter better since I had to reread it and concentrate on it so much to create the project. Our group got along really welland everyone contributed equally. Everyone brought something different to the table.
