Connections

Goon Squad has a plethora of different characters that are all in some way connected from one another (mom, dad, long time friend, wife, boss, etc). All of these connections and brief summaries of their public to their personal lives have very deep meanings behind them. I know that I probably will not fully understand a majority of the deeper meanings. However, what I do now is that this book can be relatable to a lot of people living in this postmodern world.

Whether we know somebody who is married to his man who was once my elementary teacher, we all have small connections with either a character or a statement told within a story of the good squad.

Goon Squad’s wide range of characters that show up in the book always has a very complex story hidden behind them that never are fully told. On the other hand, I am left instead wondering how I feel I know the characters so well after such seemingly brief encounters. I catch them at different phases in their lives, and am left to fill in the blank spaces.
