I'mNotTemporary

This song reflects Rhea's struggle with self identification in Ask Me If I Care through its lyrics and its creative use of specific images throughout the video. During the chapter, Rhea goes back and forth over-analyizing what it means for a person to be real. In her case, a real punk. She assumes things such as, having blond hair makes her friend Alice not a real punk. However, at the end of the story this becomes less important when it's apparent that Alice doesn't care what people think about her, making Rhea come to the possible conclusion that 'not caring' is what makes you real. In this video you have a mix of a lot of different themes and ideas, using images of many influential figures who dealt with self-discovery whether in their work or just personal image. The message that this video conveys is very much a personal one. It is difficult to translate what this song/video means because
to analyze it for one specific moral or idea would simply go against our groups focus and simply only support Rhea's ideas that some things have to fit a certain mold in order for them to be somethings.

  1. Interesting song, and it connects well to Rhea's struggle for self identity. It also appeals to the idea that Rhea can change, which she does later in the story.

  3. I love everything about this song. I'm sure Bennie would approve of it's "muddiness." The music and the lyrics and the video are confusing and messy and that just so perfectly fits with growing up and the struggles Rhea faces and we all face. Good job :)

  4. This music video is definitely something. I'm not sure what it is, but I know that it doesn't fit within any mold I've heard of. Unless that in itself is a mold, meaning that even rebellions against the structures of a postmodern world are meaningless.
