The meaning of postmodernism is a hard thing to grasp. Its definition varies depending on the thing you're categorizing and yet the meaning of that is still somewhat hazy. Postmodernism is all around us yet we do not fully realize it nor do we realize the effects that it has on us.
Most of the media today is consumed by postmodernism. The shows and movies we watch give us this feeling of what reality should be and when our expectations are not met it leaves us thinking that the reality itself is not the truth. We believe that if a situation does not turn out like the way we've seen in all our media based expectations then it is not true and we wait for our expected reality to happen. The only thing is, that reality is not true. The reality we have imagined in our head blinds us from the true reality.
But the question raised is, "What is the true reality?" To be honest, I am not quite sure myself. We grow up in a world full of postmodernism. So much that it can be hard to decipher the difference between the true reality and the one that was planted in our minds by media. The ideology of postmodernism is given to us throughout our lives. The most common form that I have come across is a postmodern identity. Through media (such as Facebook, Twitter, or dating sites) we are, more often than not, given a choice on what information we share on our profiles. By doing this, we only share what we want others to know - we shield them from the undesirable facts about ourselves. Even in college or job applications, the bosses or admissions directors make a choice based only on the paper in front of them. They most likely won't know how must effort you put in, if you were having a bad day when you took the ACTs, or even if you did anything negative that is not on a record. The postmodern identity especially gives people a way to conceal the negative aspects about themselves and live under dual personalities.
