I have recently just watched the controversial documentary Blackfish. The documentary leaked out several secrets that the amusement park had kept under the wraps. According to old staff members, SeaWorld has been capturing wild orchas and separating mothers from their calves. To make matters even worse, the 6-8 ton whales were crammed into small pens whenever they are not doing shows. The film makes viewers believe that keeping whales in captivity makes them loose their humanity. The infamous killer whale named Tilikum, was held in captivity by SeaWorld. The documentary showed Tilikum being isolated all by himself and even getting abused by the other female killer whales. The situation was worse because this large animal was kept in an incredibly small pool pen. One could imagine that this whale would slowly become enraged with fury. On February 24th, 2010, a SeaWorld trainer named Dawn Brancheau lost her life. After Tilikum’s attack on Brancheau nobody seemed to expect that the whale would be dangerous. SeaWorld simply sent Tilikum to a different park called Sealand of the Pacific ocean. Unfortunately Tilikum had caused 3 deaths during his time in captivity. My point is that these animals have lost their morals and have become mentally worked up. No orchas in the wild have ever been reported to kill any humans.
I really liked your post I have not seen the movie yet but after reading this I definitely will watch it.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. you backed up your argument by using evidence from the movie. Many people don't realize that Killer Whales that are kept in aquatic theme parks are being mistreated and abused.
