The Choice of Indepence

The anticipation has grown as the past few days have gone by. One enormous decision has to be made, and the voting starts today, Thursday September 18, 2014. Scotland will vote to decide if they would like to become their own country and gain independence from the United Kingdom. Polls at more than 5,500 stations across 32 districts will be held for citizens to vote on their choice on becoming and independent country. Being an American who has no physical connections to Scotland, it still effects me in a cultural sense. This choice for independence could potentially change future history.
There are plenty of possible difficulties that may follow with Scotland forming its own independence. One large conflict that may occur is the currency complications. Currently Scotland's currency is the pound, but if they become their own country they will have no currency. It is possible for them to fall back on the euro, yet that currency is unstable and will most likely not be able to support Scotland properly. Yet Scotland may be able to receive it's own revenue for a while in the future.
In every negative there is positive, and in the end the Scottish will either gain their independence or they will remain part of the United Kingdom. We are yet to find out, but no matter what way you see it, if it effects you or not, this will be another great historical effect in our world history that we are extremely privileged to watch and experience.

  1. It would be pretty radical if Scotland broke off. It's been a long time since something like this happened, so good luck to the Scots!

  2. The impact will definitely be big. It has 2/3 of the oil reserves in the entire UK. It's an important country, containing a lot of a precious commodity that is very finite.
