Rick Perry on Trump

Donald Trump has attacked many of his competitors, most often in the way of Ad Hominem, or in English, "to the man." It's not too often that you hear about his competitors returning the favor, though. One such instance of this is a long speech that was prepared by Rick Perry in which he basically goes nuts on Donald Trump. "Donald Trump was born into privilege", Perry says. "He received deferments to avoid service in Vietnam. He breathes the free air thousands of heroes died protecting. And he couldn't have endured for five minutes what John McCain endured for five and a half years." This is the perfect example of Ad Hominem, as instead of talking about how Trump's plans won't work, he instead attacks Trump's character. This gives off the idea that, instead of not voting for Trump because his plans are asinine and impossible, we shouldn't be voting for him just because he's weak.

  1. It is interesting to hear other candidates using Ad Hominems because Donald Trump seems to always use that fallacy during debates. Rick Perry's comment about Trump reminds me of when Trump stated that he comes from "humble" beginnings because his father "only" gave him $1 million to start his business. It just shows how privileged Donald Trump is and the bubble that he lives in.
