Kasich's Ethos

Kasich started his argument by introducing himself as the only active representative on the stage. This statement established him as an experienced leader and a participatory public servant. On top of his self-characterization, he also explains that his father was a coal miner and his mother was an immigrant, which shows his attempt to appeal to the "middle class" by asserting that he is part of that class. By simply saying that his mother was an immigrant, he established the idea that he is capable of representing the needs of immigrants in the United States.
