Mad World

In the song "Mad World" by Gary Jules, there are several poetic lines. Jules is able to sing about how our world isn't progressing, and how an epidemic of depression is hitting people.

The lines "All around me are familiar faces / Worn out places worn out faces / Bright and early for the daily races / Going nowhere going nowhere / " People were not happy with their jobs and were struggling with emotions and success in life. Nobody wanted to be honest about the fact that they would be perfectly find with the idea of "no tomorrow."

The next verse brings up a dark topic; death. "And I find it kind of funny / I find it kind of sad / The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had / When people run in circles its a very very / Mad World / " This verse contains imagery because it shows the true madness of today.

When Gary Jules miserably sings the lines "Children waiting for the day they feel good / Happy Birthday happy birthday / And to feel that every child should sit and listen sit and listen / " Its sad because he is saying that children have prolonged the day that they can be happy. Everything is almost two dimensional to them because children can't see the real picture. Birthdays are celebrations that don't represent anything other than the continuation of a flawed system. The paradox remains, meanwhile the lesson that one needs to learn in this "Mad World" is to simply be happy.
