Gender Discussion

While discussing Gender throughout this week, we as a class have uncovered a number of interesting topics. Most interestingly, in my opinion, was the idea of Gender neutrality, particularly at OPRF. OPRF is a school, touted on diversity, and supportive of different beliefs, race and gender and it is no secret that it hosts a number of students who openly and freely express themselves however they choose. But I wouldn't go as far as to say that everybody at OPRF is on the same page when it comes to gender. There are certainly more people uncomfortable with male counterparts wearing dresses (which I have indeed see) and females cutting their hair short, but the sheer fact that peers are brave enough and feel supported enough to express themselves is in fact a great thing. Although there are people who may laugh and scoff, it ultimately comes down to doing what makes you happy and true, and I think learning and becoming aware of gender only bolster's our ability to support anyone and everyone who has the courage to be who they are.
