Gender

Gender has always been a social construction. But it has not always been clear to me what gender was. If you asked me when I was young about the differences between gender and sex, I might not have a clue. My point is that learning about the difference between the social construction of gender and biological sex has been within recent years.

When we are young, we aren't taught exactly what gender is... we learn it by observation. Most gender construction comes from the experiences we have with other people, and how we view people of different levels on the gender section.

As we see less people on the opposite gender spectrum than their sex, we begin to form notions on how a certain gender should dress or act. Many people claim that they don't have a problem with dressing like the opposite gender, so why don't more people do it?

Many people feel social pressures to dress one way or another. These social pressures can come from anywhere, but they are many from our peers. I think that it is important to break down these social pressures so people can dress the way that they want to, not the way that they are pressured to.
