Take Yourself Less Seriously

During today's conversation, the class discussed gender and the the gender barriers put up by society. Some people were very passionate in their argument, doubtless because they feel strongly on the topic. However, I don't believe that the yelling contest we had yesterday was very constructive in which half the class (mainly girls) were yelling and trying to make a point about gender. I don't want to say that these people were wrong about the point they were trying to make, but I'm not sure yelling and trying to speak over each other is the best way to have a constructive conversation. This kind of yelling intimidates others from getting involved in the conversation and, I think, unfortunately adds to the myth that all feminists are crazy yelling people who are not interested in conversation. Everybody needs to calm down and communicate with each other in more civilized ways, because although an impassioned speech might be heroic and prolific in a movie, in a real day class room its just rude and gets in the way of whatever point you're trying to make on gender roles.
