Oskar's invention

My invention operates as a microscopic audio output directly into Oskar's ears. Two small transmitters are placed within the ear, and several status monitoring systems are installed. These include but are not limited to a heart rate/blood pressure monitor, and stress monitor. Each of these microscopic pieces of technology are made of a synthetic titanium-silver alloy.

Oskar struggles constantly with many consequences of the death of his father. For example, Oskar writes "I could invent a teakettle that reads in Dad's voice, so I could fall asleep" (1). My invention, with its fine-tuned detection systems, would notice times like these, and play a recording of his father's voice to comfort him. Other times, when the invention detects that Oskar is feeling especially stressed, it could play him his favorite song, or something of that sort.

I think that throughout the novel, Oskar struggles somewhat to fill the "hole" in his life that has been left by the passing of his father. His father represented stability, love, and care in Oskar's life. Despite the good intentions of his mother, she will never be able to fill the shoes of his father. Part of what Oskar misses most from his father's absence is simply his presence and demeanor, but I believe that this invention, while not able to bring back Oskar's father, can still do a good job to try to give Oskar some sense of consolation. In conclusion, I believe that this invention could help Oskar significantly with his seemingly bottomless grief.
