I have never thought much about my own personal gender identity until very recently, mainly because of the discussions that we've had in my class. There are certain stereotypes that I've associated with each sex, such as women - dresses, make-up, Starbucks lattes; and men - suits/tuxedos, wilderness surviver, steaks.
I would definitely place myself on the more masculine side of the gender-spectrum, but within a certain extent.
For example, yesterday, I swam in a pool with a bunch of guys who shave their legs and wear small tight speedos. Afterwards, I went to a banquet where we ate salad and cupcakes and cried about our swim season being over. I then went home and watched an action movie with my two sisters and helped my younger brother design a dress.
Do I have a reasonable amount of freedom in choosing my gender identity? I guess. Do other people have it worse? Probably, yes.
I don't have any problems with feminists. My opinion on the matter, however, is that if an individual feels pressured or persecuted by their peers, then they are clearly hanging around the wrong group of people. If thoese peolple, however, are their family, then it's a bit of a different matter. Regardless of the situation, everyone should be free to identity themselves however they feel fit.
Exactly. We need to be in a world where people are free to have their own identity.
