Just like Rhea and her punk friends in Goon Squad, lacrosse players try to fit in with a certain group by putting on a certain “uniform”. While not necessarily literally a uniform, both punks and lacrosse players don certain clothes, be they boat shoes or Doc Martins, to become part of a larger whole.

Uniforms
Lacrosse players get school-supplied uniforms at the beginning of each season, just like every other sport. A home and away jersey, and a pair of game shorts. If you’re on varsity, you get a windbreaker too. However, the uniform that you get from the school is only a small part of the whole ensemble. You also need white nike midcalfs. Some boat shoes would be nice, but if you want to get some nike trainers instead that’s okay. You probably should prep for the season by starting to grow out your hair in October or November (assuming it isn’t already long enough). If you don’t have ridiculous tan lines from all the pads you have to wear, you should probably start getting outside and working on that too.

I like how you related what we are learning in class to your own life! This is a very good connection and I never would have thought that the uniforms provided by the school could have so much meaning.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job of connecting your experiences to Rhea's! This was really well articulated and thought provoking to read.
ReplyDeleteI like how you connected your personal "uniform" to the Goon Squad
