What It's Like To Live In a Postmodern World

Living in a post modern world makes it very difficult to tell what is true and what is not. The media has developed an idea of how people are supposed to be and live. Every person tries to live up to these ideals, for example men have to be strong and not care, and women have to be very emotional and girly. Everyone has to look perfect, like how all the actors look in a movie, although the entire film the actors are in makeup and never look bad for a second. All people believe that they have to fit perfectly in to their standards. Postmodernism makes people attempt to live up to these ideals, but it is impossible.

People try to live up to these standards because to not do so would be unnatural. It is hard to truly know someone when the have so many different aspects. Some people act completely different around their friends, then they do at school. It is very hard to tell which side of them is real. Also many people try to perfect themselves through social media. People filter their pictures to attempt to make themselves perfect. When looking on someones social media page you aren't seeing them, but rather their own personal adaptation of what they want to be like. Everyone who lives in a postmodern society is affected whether they like it or not. The standards that the media has created will follow you throughout   your entire life. Living in a postmodern world makes it very hard to just be yourself and follow your own path.

  1. Great post! I totally agree with you that media affects us in an infinite amount of ways and skews each person's perception of their own life. I like your idea about how everybody is postmodern themselves, because they may act differently around one group of people than when they are others. I thought that was interesting and something which I had not thought of before.
