The End Has No End

The Strokes are an indie/post punk revival band formed in 1998 hailing from New York city. The Band consists of Julian casablancas (Lead vocals), Nick Valensi (Guitar), Albert Hammond Jr. (Guitar), Nikolai Frature (Bass guitar), and Fabrizio Moretti (Drums). They are one of many indie rock bands to start the garage rock revival movement, and subsequently, my favorite musical group ever formed.

The Strokes second studio album Room On Fire, was an eleven track studio recording lasting 33 sweet minutes. One of my favorite songs on the record is "The End Has No End". Shortly after the album released, they crafted a music video for this song. The video stars the likes of Mila Kunis and Eva Mendes.

The video depicts the never ending cycle of the seemingly meaningless existence of the human race.We kiss our mothers, watch T.V., grow up to get a job, then kiss our wives while they eventually have kids that perpetuates the cycle. This video might seem depressing or somber, but I look at it as an outcry. Aside from the awesome music. The Strokes are telling us to break this cycle and get out in the world! Bring meaning to your own life in the way you want it to. Don't waste this amazing opportunity on watching T.V. and drinking milk all the time. Get out there! I'm also curious if anyone else has another take on it. If so leave it in the comments section please.

  1. I agree that the song urges the listener to break out of their habitual routine and enjoy life. I think a lot of people suffer from depression as a result of feeling stuck in a rigid pattern of life.

  2. I agree completely with the song's ideas. We are told throughout our entire lives to do well in school, and we work hard because of it. But for what? The best case scenario for most people is a 9 to 5 job, which is one of the worst existences possible.
