Put Down the Phone

I probably want the next IPhone just as much as the next person. I probably want the newest and coolest technology just as much as anyone. But I don't want to want it.

I don't want to be so reliant on technology. We all remember when we were kids and we didn't have phones. I like to think that I had more fun at that age because I was forced to go outside and play with other kids. But now, kids aren't. All they care about is playing the coolest game on their shiny phones, and posting on instagram.

Let me be the first to admit, I would probably rather be getting 2048 in the game 2048, but I wish I would talk to more people. We use our phones as our "blanket". If I'm ever in a situation that I'm uncomfortable, I will definitely whip out my phone. So will so many other people.

But imagine what we could do if we actually talked to each other. If we had conversations with each other instead of liking their twitter post. I think it wouldn't be nearly as awkward as we passed each other in the hallway. We would be friends. And I want to be friends.

So I propose we put down the phone, and talk. Sure, go ahead and like their instagram post, but the next day talk to them about it. What have you got to lose? It's safe to say their is nothing to lose. We're all a little afraid, but we can do it. So, let's go.

  1. I agree with you completely. People have become so reliant on their new technology that I feel they forget how to interact face-to-face with actual people instead of a screen. I keep hearing people complain that they have no social skills whatsoever - I am guilty of this myself- but people might be a bit more comfortable with it if they could put the phone down for five or ten minutes or so and interact with people.

  2. I agree with you. Our generation is becoming to reliant on technology and our social interaction is greatly declining. Even with friends there are awkward times where people believe there only option is to take out there phone. I believe that if we can put down our phones when they are not necessary then we can learn to enjoy things in life more.

  3. I also agree, people constantly ask me is that phone attached you your hand? And I want to say back to them no, I just don't like having conversations with you. But hey, if people survived for thousands of years with out cell phones, why can't we?
