The NFL Doesn't Care About Your Opinion

Recently, a series of scandals have happened involving NFL players. The NFL has faced harsh criticism for the way it has handled the discipline of its players, and rightfully so. Unfortunately, the NFL has been this way for years and probably will be for the foreseeable future. Why can they do this? How can the NFL be aware of their own severe incompetence and not care? The answer is frustratingly simple; our opinions don't affect the NFL's income.

Let me break this down for you. The NFL makes money because people watch and like football. Companies pay massive sums of money to put advertisements for their products during commercial breaks while we buy jerseys and tickets. The massive hate for the NFL is not changing anything. We are all still tuning into the Bears' game every Sunday. People are still betting on the games and checking their fantasy teams. Unless public reputation threatens any of those things, the NFL has no incentive to change anything.

Some things which do affect the NFL's bottom line are changed instantly. The NFL is fining players for wearing Beats headphones on camera because Bose is the NFL's official headphone. Bose pays a lot of money for the title and the exposure that comes with it. Bose might pull out of that deal if Beats headphones are getting the exposure. Another example is the increasing safety measures. The NFL has come down hard on player safety issues. The NFL pretends to care about its players, but really only implemented the policies after lawsuits from former players. The list goes on and on. The NFL is without a doubt one of the slimiest corporations in existence. I don't really think I can complain though because I am watching football even as I type this.
