On the bus home from the cross country meet tonight, I had a great conversation with my coach and OPRF Security Guard Abel Reyes. He told a few of us about how he grew up in a gang ridden neighborhood (26th & California, near the jail,) and some of his life philosophy. The main point was give people the respect that you'd want from them-- and this includes adults, us, our friends, family, ect.
The more I thought about this, the more I realized how much it rings true. What the world really needs is more respect. Because when we disrespect someone because they disrespected us, think about that viscous cycle that is now born-- it's not good, and honestly, it's one that we're stuck in. Countries, teachers, world leaders, friends... we all owe everyone a little bit more. One of Abel's examples was that he hears teachers complaining about kids all the time, and he thinks that maybe if they learned to respect the kids and listen to some of their ideas, they would enjoy their carrers more.
Just a short blog post to chew on.
I agree with this post and I support the idea that an increase in respect for others would benefit our global community as a whole
ReplyDeleteI agree. You should treat people with the same respect you want from them.
