Postmodernism is defined as a late-20th-century movement in the arts, architecture, and criticism that was a departure from modernism. Postmodernism
includes skeptical interpretations of culture, literature, art,
philosophy, history, economics, architecture, fiction, and literary
criticism. In our generation, I think it's safe to say that we have very much embraced a departure from classic interpretations of accepted social norms, and have begun to weave and twist the very fabric of our own social movement. 50 years ago, interracial marriages were illegal. Lesbians, Gays, and other sexual minorities were widely discriminated against. Not alining with the popularly accepted values and beliefs of society led one to being ostracized and excommunicated. Today, though we still struggle to row against the oppressive waves of conformity and discrimination, our destination does appear a little closer to the horizon. Postmodernism's values may appear relatively abstract, but their aims are noble, and help to bring us closer to a more accepting society.
Good job. This is an interesting point of view! I like that you get at the aims of postmodernism.
