I Challenge You (Part I)

I sit and wonder all the time 'how can I make the world a better place?' but nothing really ever gets done. Maybe I think that some way very indirectly I am making a difference in the world just by living but I'm not doing anything to help myself and others. Many students always say that they're so stressed and losing their minds. Even on this blog I see some of the main conflicts being teenagers that are stressed. What can good actually do to improve your life?

Studies show that those who do good deeds or give gifts lower their stress levels by just doing a small project. Here's where the challenge comes in. To everyone who reads this blog post, I would like to challenge you to a 'Random Act of Kindness Challenge'. The challenge starts as soon as you read this post and ends a week from now. I challenge each and everyone of you to do 2-5 random acts of kindness this week. Here are a few ideas:

Buy the person standing behind you in line at Starbucks a coffee
Put extra time on someones parking meter that is running out
Make a friend some cookies
Make someone a mix C.D.
Rake your neighbor's leaves
Call a distant relative
Invite someone to have lunch with you
Offer a friend or someone you know a ride
Write a thank you note
Leave a generous tip
Give someone a flower
Give an unexpected gift
Read to a child
Donate old clothes
Draw a picture for someone
Bring craft supplies to a children's hospital
Send a care package to a college friend
Make some one laugh
Send a post card
Leave some change on a vending machine

Some of the acts are not huge but I'm sure they could make the difference in someones day. Just a simple smile makes the world a little brighter. I would love to hear about how your act of kindness effected you or even the person you gave to. I am also challenging myself. Next week I will reflect on who I have impacted and how the acts have made me feel.

I think this is a great start to get the ball rolling to a better community and even benefits for a single person. Thanks for reading, I hope to hear back!

  2. I agree with your post and believe that in order to make this a better world everyone has to contribute to it. This is a great idea with coming up with challenges for people to do, this has worked very well in the past with things such as the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. I will do a few things on this list for sure.
