Ebola Outbreak Ravaging West Africa

Recently, the first case of Ebola was diagnosed in the United States. For months, the deadly Ebola virus outbreak has been devastating West African countries. Health officials say they are confident that they will be able to control the breakout in the United States and keep it from spreading. 3,600 cases of Ebola have already been reported in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, resulting in 3,000 deaths to date.

A big problem with controlling Ebola in these West African countries is that the people sometimes refuse help because they are scared that the Western medicine is poisonous. It is sad, but perhaps not unreasonable, that our country among others is mistrusted by the West African countries facing this terrible disease. In addition to taking control of the outbreak in our country, the United States needs to send aid and supplies to the other countries dealing with the Ebola outbreak, and find a way to reassure them and convince them to accept our help. 

The United States is fortunate to have amazing medical resources and supplies to stop viruses like Ebola from spreading and killing, but many countries in West Africa lack these resources. The United States should supply knowledge, as well as money and supplies to the West African countries. So that they can stop the outbreak in their own countries and then be able to move forward with providing the medical aid necessary for other life threatening diseases like malaria.
