War is Ruthless

War is ruthless
soldiers begging for the noise to stop
covering their heads and
saying Dear Jesus while
flopping around the earth

differences from friends and
enemies disappear as they
all feared one another

friends vanish into vapor
as the blast from beneath
them engulf their soul
pieces of skin
the wet and yellow intestines
drape a near by tree

surrounded by powerful stenches
paralyzing the lungs
thick and numbing
a mix of blood and scorched hair
and the sweet-sour odor
of moldering flesh

sunlight came around him
and lifted him up
and sucked him high
into a tree full of
moss and vines and white blossoms
