Katy Perry, Firework- cultural analysis

The song firework by Katy perry is about a girl who really doesn't find any worth in herself and doesn't feel important or useful. She tries to say that you are worth something and that ¨Youŕe original¨ and ¨Cannot be replaced.¨ Even though this is uplifting sparks self-confidence, the Chorus of the song goes, ¨You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine. Just own the night, like the fourth of July. ‘Cause baby you’re a firework. Come and show’em what you’re worth. Make them go ¨oh, oh, oh!¨ As you shoot across the sky-y-y¨ This means that she needs to show everyone who she is as a person and prove to them that she is worth something and that she shouldn't been seen the way she is in her society. Instead of proving to herself that she is who she is and there's nothing she can do about it, the song shows the need for approval from others, specifically those of the other gender or whom you are attracted to. I see the intention of the song, but the words ring of approval. The quote "Come and show them what you're worth," really dries my point home. Even if she knows she is as a person, she needs to show everyone that she's a "firework."
