Black Lives Matter, All Lives Matter

I recently read an article called "Why 'Black Lives Matter' Resonates." http://www.miamiherald.com/opinion/op-ed/article31827543.html.  The article focuses on the response to the "Black Lives Matter" movement by Mike Huckabee and others. Huckabee stated " When I hear people scream 'black lives matter',  I'm thinking, of course, they do. But all lives matter." It is true that all lives matter and the focus of the "Black Lives Matter" movement is not to say that all lives don't matter. The cause is a response to the killings of unarmed black teenagers.

People that say that the "Black Lives Matter" movement is elevating some lives over others don't understand what the movement is truly trying to say. Activist within the movement are attempting to rely the message that black lives are not expendable. The movement is seeking to create awareness of the killings that are happening in cities across America. It is true that all lives matter but in the past few month an overwhelming number of black lives have been taken by police officers.  Attention needs to be called to that matter, and that is why "Black Lives Matter" goes hand in hand with "All Lives Matter".

  1. I love your last sentence, that both statements go hand in hand. I think that is a great and simple way to finish your post and get your point across. I really enjoyed the article by Huckabee and I think your quotation was a wise choice to give an idea of the original article. Well done!

  2. I also liked your last sentence, relating the importance how all lives matter and black lives matter. Good job on explaining simply what the article was about and not giving an overview.
